Hi my names Mark and I’m a Dad of 4 living in Poole in Dorset. Having played football for all of my life, keeping fit has always been very important to me and that has mostly involved a lot of running. This will be my third marathon and I’m honoured to be running for the Evie Dove Foundation and raising money and awareness of the inspiring work they do. My eldest 2 children were born prematurely. Emily-May at 36 weeks and Joe at 32 weeks. Both resulted in stays in hospital, with Joe being admitted onto the Neonatal Intensive Care ward at Poole Hospital after being resuscitated at birth. The care and support we received from the onsite of early labour, the birth and for Joe, until he was discharged from care at 4 years old, was second to none and we will be forever grateful for the team that held our hands, wiped away tears and made sure we were ok and understood what was happening, at the same time as caring for our babies. Emily-May is now 25 and Joe is 22 and thankfully we then went on to have 2 more babies who made it to full term,Libby, 13 & Maggie, 9. All 4, are happy, heathy and making us proud every day. To be able to support a foundation that provides training and stability for the incredible people who provide such a crucial level of care for children and parents, when often it feels like your world is spinning out of control, is something, when given the opportunity, I couldn’t refuse.
