Gameweek 12

Oh my………..what on earth happened there……????

……It was all teed up for an incredible week, Haaland was going to terrorise Bournemouth off the back of taking Man Utd to the cleaners, Salah was going to have a field day at lowly Luton, and then as a little bonus after the weekend, high flying Spurs were going to see away Pochettino’s hapless Chelsea, giving us all those lovely Maddison and Son points we’ve been enjoying for the last few weeks……………….it was all looking so beautiful, we could barely wait for the weekend to arrive and for a sea of green arrows to emerge………….

……….and then…..back to reality…………what we actually got was a gameweek where the average score was 32 points….. the lowest so far this season, with Haaland (1 point), Salah (2), Maddison (1), and Son (2)  leaving many of us ranting like Arteta to anyone who would listen (no-one?)…….…….. In reality he could have saved himself a load of time by just shouting “JUMP!!!!” at David Raya……..!! On the plus side, great to see the most annoying player in the league, Anthony Gordon, once again popping up and rubbing Mikel’s nose in it!

Four of you went for broke and triple captained Haaland, completely logical – it’s Bournemouth right?……… Sadly that’s that chip done for another season, returning a miserly 3 points!………………However save those commiserations because it gets worse……..step forward ‘future of the prem’ with a lovely minus 8 from captain Romero, and also ‘Hakuna Mateta’, ‘Goals Aloud’, ‘Kante Touch This’ and ‘Spirit of ‘58’, who also managed a minus 8 from the Romero & Udogie combo………….I can just picture these four teams settled down on Monday night………A home match against goal shy Chelsea, with Nicholas Jackson up front, fresh off the back of a Match of the Day Shearering………double Spurs defence……..lovely……………what could possibly go wrong………??!!

……Oh and one more  thing…….two words actually………Darwin…. Nunez……… I will say no more…………………..

Ok, that’s enough of the bad news…..there were at least two success stories…….firstly there is our old friend, the maverick that is ‘Only Kruls n Horses’, this team will just not go away………….61 points they got, less a minus 4 for taking an extra transfer, but what a transfer it was…….Son out and Fernandes in……what a move!!! They are on your shoulder once again ‘DC United’, the gap has closed to 27 points…….

…….. However, even better than that, slicing through the field like a Kai Havertz tackle, to take top spot this Gameweek was the inspired ‘Clueless Callys Club’ with an absolutely massive 66 points!!!!!  Check out this collection of players in a week when points were so hard to come by……….. Alisson (6), Stones (6), Ake (9), Kulusevski (7), Bowen (7), Foden (6), and Nicholas Jackson (16). Very, very well played ‘Cally’, in an otherwise miserable gameweek, it was great to see at least one or two teams getting some joy!

I also have to say that searching around for crumbs of comfort away from the fantasy football league, I did particularly enjoy the Antonio / Benrahma mix up, that cheered my weekend………As did this interview with Michail Antonio afterwards, which really cleared matters up on how he would deal with this if faced with the same situation again!!!!

“When I look back at it, I possibly should have left it for him [Benrahma] because obviously I’m stretching and he’s just there, on his right foot. But the man’s got to shout. Man’s gotta shout.

“There was no call, he was just there and obviously we’ve just clashed into each other as I’m trying to score, so he’s got to shout and let me know that he’s there in a better position……….

To be honest, I don’t know if I would leave it anyway. Even if he was screaming in my ear, I don’t know if I would’ve left it. I’m a number nine, I ain’t scored in three months, open goal, I don’t know……….

However, whilst I love that quote from Antonio, my absolute favourite moment of the entire weekend was THAT penalty by Ollie Norwood. Imagine taking that……. last minute of the game, your team has had the worst ever start in Premiership history, not won a game yet, and you absolutely thump it as hard as you can into the top corner…….BOOM!!!! I reckon that’s a contender for goal of the season!!!!

Right, that’s it for GW11, it’s done, let’s all move on………….GW12 is almost here, quite a lot of injuries knocking about, so there is going to be some frenzied activity today before the deadline of 11:00 on Saturday! Good luck everyone and all the best from all of us at the Evie Dove Foundation
