Gameweek 6

Gameweek 5 is done, the third week out of five where the average score was 44…..that is……. pretty average…..normally you’d expect the winner of a mini league to be getting an average of somewhere around 65 points a week, so hopefully we’ve got some massive gameweeks on the horizon!!

The start of the season is now a distant memory………. 13 of you played your wildcard this week, meaning that five gameweeks in, almost 20% of the Evie Dove Foundation League have now ditched their original squad, including our leader ‘Only Kruls n Horses’, who despite coming in below the average with 42 points in GW5, maintained their lead on 327 points. Closely followed by ‘Alisson Wonderland’ with an excellent GW score of 55 points, and very ominously for the first time this season we saw ‘Sonny & Schar’ break into the top three, last seasons champion tucked away menacingly in the slipstream………be very very afraid ‘Kruls’ and “Alisson’………………………

Highest score of the week was ‘ReeceJamesJameTarts’ on 62 points, good to see their strategy of keeping calm and not panicking paying dividends, and a special mention for both ‘Gambo’s Gunners’ and ‘Blues gunners’, clearly motivated by last weeks calling out for dubious decision making, they chucked my words straight back at me with 49 and 52 points respectively – hats off ‘Gambos’ and ‘Blues’!!!!!!

We are also now two weeks into September, and the race for the monthly prize of £50 is on, with the aforementioned ‘Alisson Wonderland’ holding the early lead, albeit its very closely stacked with many of you still in contention – here’s the top ten for info………….Any of you thinking of going for broke and playing chips to target the September win???…..All to play for!

At the opposite end of the scale to all those maverick early wildcarders, we of course have ‘The Clattenburg Trophy’, the prize that will be awarded to the highest scoring team that makes zero transfers including zero wildcards (you are allowed to play your triple captain, bench boost and free hit).

I am of course ever so slightly biased, however it gives me great pleasure to announce the new leader as ‘ on a very, very impressive 309 points……..only 18 points away from the overall lead!!

This is a team that also featured in 22/23 but that has been revitalised under new leadership from a bright new young manager on the circuit. Bravo ‘MarkRashfood’ keep up the great work, doing absolutely nothing!!!

And trust me the whole ‘zero transfers’ strategy is not easy – you only have to ask ‘Pants FC’ a team that is bravely soldiering on with this approach despite repeated blows, as Harry Kane said ‘Auf Wiedershen’, Aymeric Laporte opted for the sun and sand of Saudi Arabia (nothing to do with the cash as they all seem to say), the wonderfully named Icelander Runar Runarsson moved to the Championship with Cardiff City, and Jurrien Timber ruptured his ACL on the first day of the season!

As for the football, its settling into familiar shape, Man City at the top of the table with five wins out of five, Liverpool, Tottenham, and Arsenal are hanging onto their coat tails, and Brighton continue to punch above their weight, it comes to something when beating Man Utd at Old Trafford is almost not a surprise! Best moment of the weekend was surely Matheus Cunha’s ‘header’ against Liverpool, and Anthony Gordon continues his mission to become the most annoying player in the league…..that simply cannot be a penalty!!!

So on we go to Gameweek 6, Man City v Forest should lock in Haaland as captain for most of you, after a week where moving the armband to Son and Maddison was a popular, but ultimately frustrating move for many of you in the Evie Dove Foundation League!

Good luck everyone, and all the best from all of us at the Evie Dove Foundation.
