Gameweek 9

The interminable international break is almost over, and if anyone still cares about / remembers GW8 here is a quick summary………….

There is nothing better than a bit of local rivalry in fantasy football, as per the previous weeks update ‘Vics Victors’ threw down the gauntlet as top dog in September……..well this same gauntlet was duly grasped by a mightily impressive ‘DC United’, whose 80 points in GW8  gave them top score of the gameweek, and put them in the lead in both the October league and the overall league, leaving long-time leader and chip fanatic ‘Only Kruls n Horses’ trailing in their wake with a Free Hit inspired 66 points. We always thought the ‘Kruls’ bubble might burst……..was Gameweek 8 the week that it happened??

Only 96 of you captained Haaland this week, are we slowly losing the faith? He’s been very quiet since he lost his mate Rodri (you plonker)…….and amazingly he is the sixth most transferred out player during this international break. 48 of you went for the in-form Son, and he duly disappointed too………… well done to the ten teams who went for Salah as captain and duly benefited from a nice 30 point haul……it is only two seasons ago that Salah was the first name on all our teamsheets, and an auto captain in the same way that Haaland is now………..take note he is top points scorer so far this season (alongside Ollie Watkins)…. Is now the time to go back there?????

Meanwhile, as you’ll recall some teams simply don’t have the luxury of making these kinds of changes, these are the elite few that are battling for ‘The Clattenburg Trophy’………..and this week a new, until now unnoticed, contender stepped into the fray. The aptly named ‘Still No Changes’ surged into the lead whilst at the same time kicking back and doing absolutely nothing……..a gameweek score of 57 points was in the top 10% in GW8, and that’s in a week in which 24 wildcards were played! Maybe there is something in this strategy of doing less……….?!

And finally, despite the fact that we have a £1000 prize fund, amazingly the most hotly contested competition appears to be the one that comes with no cash, just the honour of knowing that you’ve had the ultimate mare of the season! You knew this was coming ‘Wibble’, there is nowhere to hide when you leave more points on your bench than you had in your team AND you set the new benchmark score of 33 POINTS ON THE BENCH!!! That is seriously impressive, Sterling (16), Pickford (9), and Dunk (8) doing the damage. Congratulations………for the rest of you the target is set!!

So back to it, let’s crack on with GW9, your deadline is 11:00 on Saturday. Good luck everyone and all the best from all of us at the Evie Dove Foundation.
