Oh I don’t believe it, I had *insert name here in my squad until just before the deadline / last week / all summer* delete as appropriate…………. Gameweek 1 is always the same, a time for both joy and sorrow…….but generally sorrow as you lament the ones that got away!!
A quick thank you to all of you for getting involved…..we are up to 245 teams….the biggest league we have ever had, in this our 4th season together…….I’m still chasing down 50 or so donations however so if you can get that bit of admin sorted I’d be grateful. Then I can announce the prize fund and prizes for this season, thank you.
Back to business…… we saw some cracking Gameweek 1 scores in the Evie Dove League……..leading the way early doors is RealTwenty3FC with a huge 91 points placing them in the top 25k in the world powered by Haaland captain (26), Ekitike (11), Kudus (10), Ait Nouri (9), and Sanchez (8). Nice work Real, you even managed to keep three 39 point Haaland Triple Captains 17thIDontKnowHow, Tymon for Stoppages, and Astwood Rangers at bay…….. and also swatted away nine Bench Boosts with Playing the Channels and Gylos Galacticos the pick of the bunch both accumulating an extra 20 points from their four subs. Good to see all you mavericks going early on the chips……….you were obviously feeling flush as we’ve got two of each this season! Also good to see you back at the business end Gylos after your 24/25 shocker!
Back to those Triple Captains…….interesting that all three went for Haaland over Salah……and how we non-Haalanders laughed when he missed that early header……but he was just toying with us……the big Norwegian looked sharp, and it could be a big season for him especially with £5.5m Reijnders pulling the strings behind him……how good did he look? What an FPL bargain too!
As for Salah, it was oh so typical………quiet all game, looked like he would play second fiddle to Ekitike, Gakpo and Chiesa………and then up he popped in the 93rd minute…… and what a goal it was…..he honestly deserved the assist points, and the goal points for that sprint across the pitch! I loved it when he rounded it off with Jota’s celebration, and stood united with the crowd afterwards as they sang ..’He’s a lad from Portugal……..’
And just as a reminder……… fantasy football is about so much more than winning the league, Haaland, Salah blah, blah blah………its also about the CLATTENBURG TROPHY…….a collection of cash prizes for the highest scoring teams that use the same 15 player squad all season (triple captains, bench boosts, free hits all allowed). I’ll report back on that in a few weeks when I can see a bit more clearly which teams are competing for this prestigious award! Meanwhile a couple of things I noticed in the lower reaches of the league……firstly a team called Brazil…..featuring you guessed it……15 Brazilians…….love this……I wish you all the very best in the Clattenburg……what a way that would be to win it!! Delving even further into the depths of the league, long time players will enjoy the familiarity of redmeniv being stone last with 12 points…….. you my friend are a model of consistency!
So we push on to gameweek 2……your deadline is once again Friday at 18:30……don’t miss out …..time to correct those mistakes……or stick to your guns and prove you were right all along!
