April 2024 Newsletter

TEDF Spring Newsletter

Spring is in the air and the Foundation is leaping into action for our 2nd year of spreading Evie’s love and kindness as we build her legacy by helping to shape the future of paediatric care and talent in the NHS.

Update on fundraising so far

Our overall funding total now stands at a staggering £253,000 and in 2024 alone we have already raised £30,000. A few special mentions, our heartfelt thanks to National Federation of Demolition Contractors for their fantastic donation (thank you Wes Ray for putting us forward!) and also to all the staff who run the Saga Workplace Lottery for nominating us to receive a donation, we really appreciate it.

Howard, Matt and Hugo also attended the Comparison Creator golf day at Celtic Manor, very kindly set up by Eddie and Steve to raise funds for the Foundation. Well worth watching Howard’s incredible speech about the Foundation.

Update on our Heroes

Thanks to your generous support, we have already welcomed 12 new heroes this year, which is an incredible start to 2024. Alongside amazing doctors and nurses, our heroes so far this year include our first radiographer, dietician and research assistant and our first heroes from University College and Great Ormond Street Hospitals. We are now fully National in our support of Heroes and the impact we are making.

We have also launched a year 2 support scheme as some of our heroes are now undertaking longer courses and we are delighted to have confirmed ongoing funding to two incredible heroes – Sam Archer and Humphrey Nyambe. Sam has also started baking and is selling his cakes and pastries to the teams at King’s Hospital to raise funds for TEDF, talk about a virtuous circle!

Upcoming TEDF events

TEDF events are becoming an even greater focus this year as it’s a way of adding real value to our many supporters, whilst having fun and raising good amounts of funding together.

We have 3 excellent events on sale right now, so please grab a ticket/entry if you can, and spread the word for us too!  Full details can be found on our website but here’s a quick summary of What’s on.

Sat 4th May 2024

A Mini Swim Film Festival

Saturday 4th May, 4pm
Tickets £12
Tower Theatre Folkestone

This 2 hour afternoon event this coming Bank Holiday weekend features 4 beautiful short films all about the benefits and healing impacts of outdoor and open water swimming, 2 of the films recently aired and were stand out hits at the Kendal Mountain Festival.

We start with three stunning short films that pack a punch in terms of their story, cinematography and emotion. All have brought audiences to their feet at previous screenings. Followed by a raffle, an intermission and then screening of the main event which is a 25 minute film called Under The Surface which is a film dedicated to our beautiful Evie. Finally a Q&A with some of the swimmers/stars of the films!

Sat 15th June

The Big TEDF Bike Ride

Saturday 15th June, 9.30am
Entry £25pp / £80 for family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children over 12)
Start and ends: Barham Village Hall

We are teaming up with local artisan bike builders Craft Bikes, run by James and Chloe who have years of cycling experience, to help us lead the ride in a safe, fun and professional way. There are 100 places and the ride is available for ages from 12 and over.

The ride will be an enjoyable but pretty challenging 28 mile (45 km) ride through the beautiful Kent countryside, taking in byways, forest trails, gravel paths and some country roads. A mix of scenery and riding surfaces but nothing too technical!

We’ve carefully chosen (…and test ridden many times!) a route that spends as much time off road as possible, the ride will be achievable on a gravel bike or mountain bike with appropriate tyres. We expect it will take between 3 – 5 hours. It’s not a race but a chance to soak up the fresh air and countryside, conducted in a fun and social way. This event will need good levels of fitness, training and the right bike!

Entry tickets include a TEDF/Craft Bikes water bottle, a finishers wood fired pizza from Barney & The Pizza and a craft beer (or soft drink) from a local craft brewery.

The fundraising target is a minimum of £50 per person, but we hope you’ll go on to raise as much as possible for our amazing cause. For anyone raising £100 or more in advance of event day we will gift you with an Evie Dove Foundation T-shirt too!

Afternoon tea

Summer is on the way and our popular afternoon tea will also be back this July, with more details to follow. Evie’s Auntie Caroline will be hosting from her beautiful gardens in Kingston, Kent.

Sat 7 September

The Evie Dove Fundraising Walk

Saturday 7th September
17 miles (£10 per person), and 3 miles (£5 per person)

The return of our amazing walk on Saturday 7th September 2024! We are expecting it to be hugely popular, so it is a great idea to sign up early and secure your place!  This year we have upped entries to 300.

The format will be the same – 17 miles (£10 per person), and 3 miles (£5 per person).

Also, if you want to sign up and do a walk locally to you that is absolutely fine. In 2023 we had walks around the UK, and in Cyprus, Germany, Spain, Italy and Norway. Wherever you are in the world, we want as many people involved as possible!

Save the dates!

TEDF Christmas Party. Saturday 7th December – tickets will be the same price as last year, from £40 per person and includes welcome drink of bubbles on arrival, canapè, delicious hot buffet, live band, and there will be raffle and auction as normal and plenty of dancing!

More details on this one coming soon, but our amazing friends at Betteshanger Country park are hosting a Family Music Festival on Sunday 26th May. Proceeds from tickets go towards The Foundation. Fabulous live local bands, fun for all the family, with food and drink available to purchase on the day. Save the date for this one!

Superstar fundraisers

We also have some “go getting” (….brave, mad, crazy!) individuals taking on big challenges in the Foundation’s honour.  From the Holiday Extras team big thanks to Alana Forrest, Daniel Glover-Silk, Paul Constable, and Megan Ruffell (“team D.A.M.P”) who will be running marathons in April to raise funds in support TEDF.

Dan and Alana will be running the Brighton Marathon on 7th April 2024. Meg and Paul will be running the London Marathon on 21st April 2024. You can sponsor team DAMP here.

We also have the brilliant Sam Richardson running the Brighton Marathon, thank you so much Sam. Best of luck!  Details about Sam’s event are here.

NEW TEDF fundraising platform!

We are also delighted to announce that we are pioneering not just in our own charitable field but also in how our fundraising is collected.  In conjunction with the amazing Oak Creative Design we have built our own fundraising platform for all donations and to create their sponsorship pages – whether this is for individuals or teams.

Why do this?

Well most of the platforms we saw out there charge platform fees, not just to us as a charity but they also ask for further voluntary contributions – these are often presented, in our view unfairly, as though they might be Gift Aid or further donations to the charity. This goes against everything we are about so now we have our own system, no charges to you, to anyone that donates – in line with our principles of transparency, fairness and maximising all funds to our Heroes.

Our new platform still collects Gift Aid in the normal way.  So big thanks to Oak Creative Design, and we hope you like the system which is now live!

So that’s it, we can’t wait for the clocks to change and hope to see you at one of our many Spring/Summer events.

Thank you so much for all your ongoing love, support and encouragement.

The Trustees,

Howard, Katie, Matt, Helen, Hugo, Simon, Caroline
