October 2023 Newsletter

Hello again, it feels like summer really is over now and time for an Autumn update from The Evie Dove Foundation.

When we last contacted you we had 17 amazing Paediatric heroes and are so delighted at how, thanks to your incredible support, the Foundation has now reached a fantastic milestone of sponsoring 32 heroes.

We are especially delighted to welcome new heroes from Manchester, Kingston and Oxford to Team Evie Dove – it’s fabulous to see Evie’s legacy reaching new parts of the NHS. We have also loved getting updates of our heroes’ work and achievements, amazing to see Emily & Mira at the European Respiratory Society Congress (ERS) 2023 and Amy at the 61st Annual European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE) where they presented their presentations and also promoting TEDF by wearing their T-Shirts.  Also to see Mo being awarded the Speciality Trainee of the Year in his hospital

The Big Coastal Walk

The first Evie Dove walk had a fantastic turnout of 250 people and raised a simply incredible £28,000, which will enable us to sponsor a further  9 Heroes! This event was such a success that we have already planned next year’s walk, which will take place on Saturday 7th September 2024 and is already open for registration on theevidedovefoundation.org site. If you are free to join us, the booking link is here https://theeviedovefoundation.org/ourevents/

As before you can join us in Kent, or walk locally wherever you are in the world – we believe there will be a strong contingent in and around Birmingham – more news to follow.

Thank you to everyone who supported this amazing event. We would like to make a special shout out to the heroes who joined our first annual walk, with Helen and Becca walking in Bristol, and Cuba and Humphrey walking with us in Kent.

TEDF Golf Day

Following hot on the heels of the big coastal walk, we had another brilliant turnout for the inaugural Foundation golf day. 16 teams, each comprising 4 players, battled it out on the Nick Faldo designed Chart Hills Golf club. A hotly fought contest was eventually won by the narrowest of margins by the APH team, captained by Nick Caunter.

In total we raised an amazing £11,000, which will enable us to sponsor a further 4 heroes. Given the big success of the day, we will be repeating the event in 2024 – we will let you know as soon as a date is confirmed.

Evie‘s Sparkle

Imagine a world where compassion knows no bounds, where kindness reigns supreme, and where every person feels like they matter. That is a world Evie created and all those in her world were surrounded by her bold, bright and warm spark no matter how hard life got for her. Even at such a young age, Evie had a sparkle that was like no other. We are celebrating that sparkle on November 5th and would love it if you could join us in lighting a sparkler and writing Evie’s name or the foundation heart in the sky. Sharing this on your social media with the #EviesSparkle or send us your videos so we can share on the Foundation Instagram and continue the wave of kindness she gave to all she met even in the darkest of times. On what will also be her brother Edward’s birthday, this is a wonderful way to celebrate with Edward too.
Evie’s Sparkle #EviesSparkle is not about giving money; it’s about showing love, support, and a chance to remember the bright and beautiful sparkle that was our Evie. We hope to send ripples across social media so more people get to know about Evie’s story and her legacy, so those who have also been dealt an unfair hand can see they are not alone.

Where’s Dickie?

You may have picked up on our Instagram that one of our supporters is really going the extra mile…. well thousands of them! The wonderful Dickie Mackness is walking the whole of the coastline of Britain to raise money for and awareness of the Evie Dove Foundation.  And yes it is  a huge task and will take Dickie a full year to complete. He set off from Folkestone after our TEDF walk in early September and is already in Cornwall. You can follow his progress and learn more about his journey on our website https://theeviedovefoundation.org/wheres-dickie/

Dickie is always so thrilled to meet people on his walk, so if any of you live near the coast and can meet Dickie for a cup of tea and a chat when he passes through your area, or if you want to walk with him for a while, then he’d be really grateful. Just let us know at the TEDF HQ and we’ll connect you directly to Dickie to make a plan to meet up. Thank you.

Coming up we have two exciting festive events for you:

The 2023 TEDF Christmas Party – Saturday 2nd December

On the evening of Saturday 2nd December it’s time for this year’s TEDF Christmas Party.

This year we have secured an incredible venue close to Sandwich and Deal, the Glass Room at Betteshanger Country Park. The party starts at 7pm and runs to midnight, the venue has free parking but we would suggest organising taxis in advance for pick up if you plan to have a glass or 2!

Tickets will be released via the Evie Dove Foundation website in early November on a first come, first served basis, with the option for group / corporate tables of 10 or individual tickets.

The party will feature a live band, food, a welcome drink on arrival, a raffle and another brilliant auction, with some incredible lots. Teddy has his eyes on the Didier Drogba signed Chelsea

TEDF Showstoppers and Sleigh Bells concert – Saturday 9th December, 7.30pm

Join the Canterbury Sing Space Musical Choir at Canterbury Baptist Church for an evening of entertainment with showstoppers from your favourite musicals. An evening guaranteed to get you in the Christmas spirit, with refreshments, festive treats, raffle prizes and voices that will fill your heart with joy! Coached by West End Vocal Coaches Laura and Emily these showstoppers promise to blow you away. All proceeds raised are going to The Evie Dove Foundation, you can buy tickets directly from our main website. We can’t wait to see you!

Finally, just a reminder that you may wish to plan your own fundraising challenge for 2024 and thanks to all of you who have already completed fund raising activities for us. It can be absolutely anything – a cake sale, a run, a comedy show, a quiz and a cocktail night, or just a cocktail night! These are just some of the activities that you have already undertaken to support the Foundation. We can help you in any challenge you’d like to set up, no matter how crazy or unique – we can promote your challenge and, of course, send you some lovely TEDF branded kit. Just let us know and we will be there to bolster your fundraising activities, talents and efforts.

From us the main message is one of thanks, we are just over a year running TEDF in Evie’s honour and to have raised £172k and sponsored so many Heroes already this is truly beyond our wildest dreams for the Foundation. This demonstrates that we are fulfilling a genuine need to support and fund talented paediatric medical professionals but can only do this with your help, love and support.

Kindest regards,

Howard, Katie, Caroline, Simon, Matt, Hugo, Helen
