Please briefly describe your clinical/medical experience to date?
After 6 Years of Paediatric and Obstetric theatres at Royal London Hospital, I have rotated to Adult Emergency theatres and Barts Cardiac Theatres. I was redeployed to Intensive Care during the pandemic.
What motivated you to enter paediatric care in the first place?
I was inspired by the care my daughter received at Barts as a patient, i also enjoy the variety that Paediatrics offers. In theatres we can have a 500 gram baby for one case and a 100kg teenager the next and each child and family needs their own specific care. Fortunately children generally do well and have most have good outcomes they are able to recover quickly.
How will the funding from The Evie Dove Foundation help you to advance your career and your impact/services to children?
The Royal London is one of four Major Trauma Centres in London, as a Trauma Theatre Sister i provide courses and training for the department for Major Trauma cases. The foundation haven generously supported me in taking the MSC Trauma Sciences at Queen Mary University. This will enable me to improve my knowledge and expertise and share within my department . Up-skilling staff to respond the to the very best of their ability to Major Trauma / Major incidents is the ultimate aim and will improve outcomes in these emergency situations.
How did you find out about The Evie Dove Foundation?
I had followed Evie’s story and found it so admirable that despite experiencing such tragedy her family were looking to improve the care that other children received . A few months ago the Evie Dove Foundation contacted Bart’s as they wanted to help the children of North East London and i applied straight away!
