Emma Dunford-Lees

Please briefly describe your clinical/medical experience to date?

I first started working in the NHS as an assistant psychologist in a children’s physical rehabilitation service and since then have had a passion for working within paediatric settings. Upon qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist I originally worked in CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Services), and following that moved to working within the paediatric psychology team at the Oxford Childrens Hospital. During my time within the service, I have worked across a range of different paediatric specialities including Oncology, Brain Injury, Long Covid and Chronic Pain.

What motivated you to enter paediatric care in the first place?

I find working with young people and their families to reduce distress and help young people manage their health conditions in a way that allows them to live a meaningful life, deeply rewarding.

How will the funding from The Evie Dove Foundation help you to advance your career and your impact/services to children?

The course will directly benefit my clinical work with children and young people experiencing chronic pain and their families. It will provide me with up to date research and thinking on the best treatments and clinical care which I can then directly apply to my clinical work day to day. I am also keen to start conducting research within this area and the conference will enable me to be aware of current research and to collaborate with the leading researchers in chronic pain from around the world. The more research conducted the more than we can understand the experiences of young people with chronic pain and their families and provide the best possible care.

How did you find out about The Evie Dove Foundation?

Through colleagues who have been kindly supported by Evie Dove in the past.

Tell us about yourself!

When I am not working I love spending time with my family. I love hiking and am at my happiest when stomping up a mountain in the Lake District.
