Please briefly describe your clinical/medical experience to date?
As an Advanced Clinical Practitioner at Kings College Hospital in London, my journey from a staff nurse to specializing in neonatal nursing has been nothing short of transformative. I started my career as a CCU nurse in India after completing my degree in nursing. The decision to move to Saudi Arabia was driven by my desire for a better life experience, but little did I know that it would also lead me to discover my true passion. Working as a neonatal nurse in Saudi Arabia opened my eyes to the incredible resilience and vulnerability of premature babies. Witnessing their tiny bodies fight for survival ignited a fire within me, pushing me to learn more and do better for these fragile lives. I dedicated myself to honing my skills and knowledge in neonatal care, constantly seeking opportunities for professional growth. When the job opportunity in London presented itself, I knew deep down that this was the next step in my career. The prospect of working at Kings College Hospital, renowned for its excellence in healthcare, was both exciting and daunting. However, my unwavering love for neonatal nursing propelled me forward. In my role as a nurse at Kings College Hospital London, I have had the privilege of witnessing and contributing to the growth and development of the medical field. Starting my career as a nurse, I was able to gain valuable experience and knowledge that eventually led me to become an Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP). As an ACP, I have been entrusted with more responsibilities and challenges, which have further honed my skills and expertise. Currently, I am working as a Registrar on the medical rota, where I face various complex cases and situations on a daily basis. While these challenges can be demanding, I find immense satisfaction in being able to make a difference in patients’ lives. In addition to my clinical work, I have also taken on roles as a Neonatal Life Support (NLS) instructor and Simulation Instructor. These positions allow me to share my knowledge and train other healthcare professionals in life-saving techniques for newborns. One of my proudest achievements is being a part of the creation of an ANNP Forum, a platform for Neonatal Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) and Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (ANNPs) in collaboration with the London Operational Delivery Network (ODN). One of the key achievements of this forum has been the facilitation of regular conferences and workshops where Nurse practitioners can come together to discuss the latest advancements in neonatal care. In recognition of my dedication and expertise in this field, I was appointed as the Co-Chair for the ANNP Forum. This role has allowed me to lead discussions, organize educational events, and advocate for the advancement of ANNP roles within our hospital and beyond. In addition to my involvement in the ANNP Forum, I also actively contribute to medical research. This involvement has allowed me to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements and contribute to the improvement of patient care. This commitment to research not only benefits my own professional development but also ensures that the care provided to patients is based on the latest scientific evidence. I am grateful for the opportunities I have had to make a meaningful impact in both the clinical and research aspects of my career. One of the highlights of my career so far has been presenting at national and international conferences, including JENS (Joint European Neonatal Neonatal Societies). These experiences have not only helped me share my knowledge and expertise with fellow professionals but have also exposed me to innovative ideas and approaches from experts in the field. It is through these interactions that I have realized there is still so much more to learn and accomplish in the realm of neonatal care. As I reflect on my journey thus far, I am filled with a sense of purpose and determination. The challenges faced by neonates and their families are immense, but they also present an opportunity for growth and improvement. I am committed to making a brighter future As I continue on this path, I am driven by the belief that every newborn deserves the best possible start in life. The experiences I have had so far have only strengthened my resolve to make a difference in the field of neonatal care. I am eager to explore new research and advancements, collaborate with fellow professionals, and advocate for policies that prioritize the well-being of these vulnerable infants. Together, we can create a world where neonatal care is not just a necessity, but a standard of excellence.
What motivated you to enter paediatric medical care in the first place?
I started my career as a CCU nurse, primarily focused on providing critical care to adult patients. However, fate had something else in store for me when I found myself in Saudi Arabia. Due to a shortage of staff, I was unexpectedly appointed to work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Little did I know that this experience would completely change the trajectory of my nursing journey. Stepping into the NICU for the first time, I was immediately captivated by the delicate and vulnerable lives that surrounded me. The tiny infants fighting for their survival, their innocence juxtaposed with their strength, touched something deep within me. It was here that my passion for neonatal care began to bloom. Every day spent in the NICU brought new challenges and rewards. From caring for premature babies struggling to breathe on their own to supporting families through the rollercoaster of emotions that came with having a critically ill newborn, I witnessed firsthand the immense impact that skilled and compassionate nursing care could have on the lives of these tiny infants and their families. As I spent more time in the NICU, I became increasingly fascinated by the intricate medical interventions and technologies that were used to save these fragile lives. The dedication and expertise of the neonatal care team inspired me to pursue a career in nursing, with a specific focus on providing specialized care to these vulnerable newborns. I knew that by becoming a neonatal nurse, I could make a meaningful difference in the lives of these precious little fighters and their families.

I prioritize my family above all else. They are the foundation of my life, and their happiness and well-being are of utmost importance to me. Balancing my professional life with my family responsibilities can be challenging at times, but it is incredibly rewarding. I find great joy in the simple pleasures of life, like spending quality time with my husband and two children. Despite the demands of his job as a Logistic Manager, my husband never fails to prioritize our family’s needs and ensures that we have a healthy work-life balance. Living in Bexleyheath has been a blessing for us. The vibrant community and close-knit neighbourhood provide a safe and nurturing environment for our children to grow up in. We believe in providing our children with the best opportunities for growth and success. As our eldest embarks on his journey into higher education, we are excited to see him pursue his passion for computer science at City University, London. Our youngest is currently in year 10 at Dartford Grammar School, where she is thriving academically. One of the passions that I have cultivated over the years is cooking. I enjoy creating delicious meals for my family and experimenting with different flavours and cuisines. It brings me joy to see their faces light up when they taste something new and exciting. Cooking has become a way for me to express my creativity and love for them. The kitchen has truly become my sanctuary, where I can escape from the stresses of everyday life and immerse myself in the joy of cooking. Aside from my family, my friends and extended family play a significant role in my life. Their presence adds vibrancy and energy to my days. Whether it’s gathering for celebrations or simply spending quality time together, their company rejuvenates me. Exploring new environments allows me to step out of my comfort zone and embrace unfamiliar experiences. Traveling is my other passion. It allows me to break free from the confines of my everyday routine and immerse myself in new environments. The thought of exploring different cultures, landscapes, and experiencing the diversity that exists beyond my own familiar surroundings is truly exhilarating. I find immense joy and fulfilment in dedicating my time and efforts towards charity work. It is a privilege to be able to contribute to causes that make a positive impact on the lives of others. One particular organization that holds a special place in my heart is Ickle Pickles, a charity dedicated to supporting babies and neonatal units. These tiny fighters often require specialized care, medical attention, and equipment to ensure their healthy development. By running for Ickle Pickles, I actively participate in raising funds that directly benefit these vulnerable infants. Additionally, engaging in various crafting activities during my leisure time, makes me feel happy. Cross stitching allows me to create intricate and beautiful designs, while stitching clothes gives me the opportunity to express my creativity through fashion. One of my favourite aspects of crafting is making soft toys. The process of transforming simple materials into adorable companions brings out the childlike wonder within me. Seeing the smiles on children’s faces when they receive these handmade toys fills my heart with warmth and contentment. Beyond my personal enjoyment, I am deeply committed to giving back to my community.
