Please briefly describe your clinical/medical experience to date?
I started my career as a nurse in Paediatric Intensive Care , caring for the sickest children in the region. I then decided to move to children’s emergency care to look after children with the broadest range of illness and injuries, be they minor or major. Having worked in this role for a couple of years I am now the link nurse for sedation and tissue viability. In my day-to-day role I am also a student mentor & assessor, and work with newly qualified nurses on their preceptorship programme.
What motivated you to enter paediatric care in the first place?
I had initially trained as a teacher and, although not the right career path for me, I found working with children extremely rewarding. When they think something they tell you which can be quite refreshing. I also think that, as we look after children, we look after the next generation of adults, so giving them the best start is important and something I want to be involved in.
How will the funding from The Evie Dove Foundation help you to advance your career and your impact/services to children?
The funding from the Evie Dove Foundation will support me to deepen my knowledge of caring for children in the Emergency Department setting, across all specialties. I’ll be able to directly apply this knowledge to the care I deliver to my patient, aswell as support the development of my colleagues through skill and knowledge sharing. This will also help me to advance my career as I will gain qualifications many of my peers do not have and stand me in good stead to progress as a clinical leader.

Tell us about yourself!
I currently live with my husband in Bristol but I am from Bournemouth originally. Bristol is a fantastic place to live but I do miss the seaside! Outside of work I own a van which we converted and like to travel in regularly. I am also into my second year of keeping an allotment which is definitely a try-fail- try again activity.
