Natasha Blackburn

Please briefly describe your clinical/medical experience to date?

I qualified as a Children’s Nurse at the University of Huddersfield in 2020 during covid. 5 months before qualifying I became an Aspirant Nurse to help during the pandemic, then went onto work as a Staff Nurse in Manchester where I have worked on a general Paediatric ward for 3.5 years.

What motivated you to enter paediatric care in the first place?

I have always had a passion for working with children. Seeing their journey to getting better in hospital and how they show their resilience is extremely rewarding.

How will the funding from The Evie Dove Foundation help you to advance your career and your impact/services to children?

The funding raised from the Evie Dove Foundation will enable me to attend and complete the 14 week Paediatric High Dependency Course. This will allow me to gain new skills and up to date knowledge when caring for critically ill children. This will allow me to implement safe practice for all children and young people on the ward.

How did you find out about The Evie Dove Foundation?

From a colleague on the ward I work on.

Tell us about yourself!

I live in Manchester with my family. In my spare time, I like to meet up with friends, go for food, go on walks and I love to travel. I enjoy city breaks, but I mainly enjoy relaxing on a beach.

Anything else you would like to tell us about your experience, future aspirations and motivations?

My future aspiration is to continue to progress in the field of Paediatric Nursing. I will aim to do this by attending future courses available to increase my knowledge and skills.
